Arizona Poker Gambling
If you're looking for details about gambling and Texas holdem in
the state of Arizona (AZ), then you've come to the right place.
We've included below and overview of the gambling laws in the
state, some history and poker player information, and a
directory of casino card rooms where you can play poker. The
Arizona Department of Gaming is the regulating body for
Indian Casinos in the State of Arizona. There are a series of
compacts between the Indian tribes and the State. These detailed
compacts range from the percentage of revenue collected by
the state to funding
conservation. They also cover a limitation on the number of tribal
casinos allowed (currently they are 22 casinos out of a
permitted 29) and there are limitations on the number of poker
tables and bet limits. Today poker
is big in Arizona, largely due to the excellent Indian Casinos. It also has a history of what could be mildly described
as colorful characters. In the mid to late 1800s, the
territory of Arizona was a lawless place and many of the famed
gunslingers such as Doc Holliday (who was actually a dentist by
profession) were almost as renowned for their poker playing as
for their shootouts. In fact, gambling in Arizona was
such a hazardous pastime that knowing how to protect yourself
was essential whatever side of the law you were on. Then came Sheriff John Slaughter, an avid gambler famed for bringing
many an outlaw to justice ‘dead or alive’ and who played such a
large part in cleaning up Arizona, helping pave the way for
Arizona to enter the Union. Below is a
listing of Arizona cardrooms. We have included addresses and
phone
numbers below, but casinos and card rooms open, close, move, and
change all the time, so keep in mind that some of the directory
info below might already be out of date. Where possible, we've
also linked to the official site of each poker room. Highway
