Colorado Gambling Laws

The Colorado Division of Gaming is a division of the Colorado Department of Revenue, it is responsible for regulating and enforcing limited gaming in Colorado. Any license applicant has to undergo perhaps the most vigorous of background checks of any state to ensure there is no criminal money involved. Casinos are also monitored regularly by division investigators to ensure there is no irregular activity, and also to monitor patron complaints.

Alice Ivers - Colorado’s Poker Past

Colorado, like the other Mid-West States is steeped in poker folklore, one of its most famous characters was Poker Alice, born Alice Ivers in 1853 in Devonshire, England. Her family moved to Colorado while she was still an infant. Poker Alice as a young woman was not only very beautiful, but a legendary poker player and raised her large family through her poker earnings. Alice later went on to establish a house of ‘Ill Repute’ outside of Sturgis, and her standing was such, that she even managed to convince her bank manager, to lend her money to increase her premises, whether business was good or she won the money in one of her poker games, either way the loan was repaid within a year.

Notable Colorado Poker Players

Colorado has an abundance of poker playing talent as you would expect, here we list just a few of the more notable players of modern times and those who have been making an impact of late.

Russ Carlson

Russ has been making a steady stream of cashes in tournaments over the past few years, his most notable result was a 5th place in the 2005 WPT World Poker Challenge, Reno winning almost $80,000.

Craig Crivello

Craig has over $130,000 in lifetime prize money, while Craig has been on the poker scene for quite some time it is just of late that he is making an impact, his best result to date is a 6th placing in the $3000 Limit Hold Em event at the 2005 WSOP.

Gary Do

Gary has won over a quarter of a million in tournament prize money, his most notable result is 4th place on the 4th July 2005 in the WSOP $1000 No Limit Hold Em event winning prize money of $164,500.

Billy Duarte

Billy has a reputation as one of the toughest No Limit Hold Em players around, has also been notching up some impressive tournament results over the past few years, as of December 20, 2006 he has won over $700,000 worldwide in tournament play, including two final table appearances in the 2006 WSOP.

Randy Jensen

Randy has earned over $1 million worldwide, including a massive scoop of over $650,000 when taking 2nd place in the 2004 $10000 No Limit Hold Em Main Event at the fifth annual Jack Binion World Open, Tunica.

Tom Lee

Tom, with lifetime winnings of over $200,000, Tom’s biggest result in his poker career came at the 2004 Legends of Poker, Los Angeles where he came 6th in the No Limit Hold Em Championship Final.

Francois Safieddine

Francois has over $750,000 in lifetime winnings in tournament poker; one of his most impressive results has to be his winning of the $2000 No Limit Hold Em Festa Al Lago V Tournament, Las Vegas in October 2006 where he won over $157,000.

Nick Yobbagy

Nick won 1st place in the $1000 Limit Hold Em event at the sixth annual Jack Binion World Open, Tunica, January 2005 winning over $100,000.
