West Virginia Poker - Casino Gambling

West Virginia doesn't currently offer legal poker card rooms, although the home poker game scene is active. Underground cardrooms and Texas holdem games are easy to find on the Internet using a search engine, but we always recommend giving online poker a try rather than risking the low levels of security which are sometimes present in illicit gambling environments. West Virginia Poker Players

Harry Knopp hails from West Virginia, and in 2004, he won the third place prize in the World Poker Challenge 2004 final, a World Poker Tour event. His total winnings were in excess of $150,000 in that tournament event.

In 2005, the winner of the seniors' no limit holdem event at the World Series of Poker was also from West Virginia. Paul McKinney of Princetown, WV was the winner of over $200,000 in prize money in that event.

Legalization of Poker

Clubs and fraternal organizations in the state are trying to get legal permission to host poker tournaments and events. This effort is largely being led by the West Virginia Association of Club Owners and Fraternal Service. Being able to offer these games would enable these organizations to attract younger members, and since much of the proceeds from events like this are given to charity, this proposal seems like a win for everybody. Fraternal organizations are seeing drops in memberships, so being able to attract new, young members would enable these clubs to continue their good works in the future.

West Virginia Racinos and Gambling

Wheeling Island offers over 2400 slot machine games and six restaurants. They primarily offer dog race betting from 7am to 4am. Their casino also offers video blackjack, video keno, and video poker. Their bingo room seats 600 people.
